3 Ways To Never Give Up On Yourself Again
After starting and failing countless times, working with 50+ global brands and leaders, hundreds of individuals, and creating 3 successful businesses; I’ve learned 3 powerful ways to never give up on yourself again:
1. Focus on what you DO want, not what you don't want
Sounds obvious right? That’s exactly why its so easy to overlook.
Where your attention goes, energy flows.
You see, it takes energy to create; and it takes focus to direct that energy consciously. Thoughts and energy that are aligned with your vision will benefit and accelerate it; Just as opposing or misaligned thoughts and energy will block you from fulfilling it.
While it can be helpful to identify what you don’t want- because it makes more obvious what it is you do want - it’s not helpful to dwell on it.
Focus on directing the energy that feeds the vision; and cut-off the energy that bleeds the vision.
Think about it like this:
If your vision were already fulfilled in this moment right now… how would you feel? Joyful, grateful, happy, complete, etc. It’s this state of being which is aligned with the outcome; therefore it’s these qualities that you must align with in order to realize the outcome.
Before you do anything- be in the state of fulfilment of your vision;
This is what allows for inspired action (aka the path of least resistance).
2. What matters is WHY not how
It all comes down to meaning and priority.
If you don’t have kids, just pretend for a moment that you do.
Now, as a parent, would you let your kids starve or be harmed? NO. Why? Because, as a parent, your children matter more to you than anything else.
It doesn’t matter how you will do it; You will find a way to feed and care for them. Right? They mean too much to you to prioritize anything else or anything less than their survival and safety.
And the same goes for you…
If your vision means enough to you, then you will prioritize it above all else.
You won’t give up, if it means more than anything else.
3. Play to win your own game
Creating your dream is serious business; But being playful makes all the difference.
It’s true that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. But it’s also true that when you’re having fun and enjoying what you’re creating, you’ll want to show up and play; And you’ll want to keep playing.
it’s important to aim high; So that the dream is inspiring- and challenging.
And equally important, is to keep it light, fun and exciting- like the games you love to play; and you never want to end.
But that’s not enough… you also need to feel invested.
People often say that you rise to the occasion; but it’s more likely that you’ll rise from the level of your own accountability.
There needs to be something on-the-line; something that kicks your ass into gear, when it just doesn’t want to move.
You need to be playing-on-the-field; because its easy to give up on yourself when no one is watching and when there’s no one else on your team to call you out.
Last but certainly not least, there needs to be fun and ridiculous consequences for when you don’t follow through on your word.
Look, you can momentarily fall off track- skip a habit, forget a commitment or just not be feeling it today. That’s fine, that’s why you give yourself a ‘get-out-of-jail-free card’; and then you hop right back on the wagon.
But what happens if you start getting lazy and ‘miss’ more than just one? What’s at stake? Well, why not your dignity?
What if there was a funny consequence to hold you accountable?
Like, dressing up as a butler and serving your friends or family! Because there’s nothing like being playfully roasted, while you remind yourself to “just do it” next time.
There are so many creative ways to play to win your own game; and, of course, you designed your game, so why wouldn’t you want to win it?
